I just finished reading "The Google Story" and i recommend it is a must read for everyone...!
Google acquired tonic systems and looks as though you can say bye bye to MS office...

Google has pretty much everything anybody needs to run an office...What they don't have yet, is available open source...This was the topic of discussion of today's chat with rk...
Taking a shot at future, here is my wish list of what Google might do...
1. Port the latest version of MySQL and release a competitor to Access...
2. Come out with a OS (Let's call it googlos for now...;)) and keeping up with Google trend, it'll be as intuitive and simplest possible UI and reverse compatible with all the windows softwares...
btw, there is a new entrant to online TV segment Joost...Though still in beta phase, it has generated a lot of buzz...Though I got introduced to it only today morning, i've read enough material to take up a mastermind on "joost"...:)
If this thing takes off, this could be the biggest competitor to Youtube and its clones, but this could also be the next big acquistion target for Google...Let's see what happens...!!!

I somehow do not think Google will do a custom built OS...that too desktop OS ? No way...
Reasons are many..first, google is trying to get everything into web...see the docs.google.com ..so if they are going to develop any os it would be web os ...on the likes of youos, eyeos and there was another good one i forgot..
Next..in a slow way they are capturing more and more of our attention, and making us use their product - google desktop, which they are shipping to mac too...
And on the lines of spreadsheet,word, presentation, they are most likely to take over a n OS rather than develop...
And not to forget the Linux..the news is very strong that many employees at google work on a version of ubuntu and they've named it goobuntu...so if any desktop OS i can think of it would be linux modified by google...
Skype, kazaa and joost..those guys are something man....

Implementation is google's headache...not mine...whether they develop it or port an existing version of Linux...;)
I'll give you one word why Google might go and build a desktop OS...FUN...!
btw minglebox is getting a funding of $7 mn by Sequoia, the same guys who funded google...!
